Classical Movements Brings Cuban and American Choirs Together in Fourth of July Concert

On July 4, 2010 the 210 members of the Yale Alumni Chorus and the 41 members of the New Amsterdam Singers were joined by four other choirs to perform a celebratory Independence Day concert at Havana's Lázaro Peña Theater.

The Choirs received a warm welcome in Cuba with a total 7 concerts and 9 Cuban choral and orchestral collaborations. Continued...

On Valentine's Day 2010, traveling between two snow storms, the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Paavo Järvi, departed for New York City. In June, the Yale Glee Club traveled to the Dominican Republic, on a tour of Music and Outreach. The Glee Club set up a home base in the mountain village of Vallejuelo, about 40 minutes from San Juan. Minnesota Orchestra makes 7th and 8th Tours with Classical Movements in 2010.

In February 2010 at Carnegie Hall, Osmo Vänskä and the Minnesota Orchestra performed a program of music by Beethoven and Jean Sibelius. This concert was a part of a month-long orchestra marathon held by Carnegie Hall which saw, along with the Minnesota Orchestra, the symphony orchestras of Chicago, Boston, Cincinnati, and Pittsburgh; the Gewandhaus Orchestra of Leipzig; the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam; the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra of St. Petersburg; and the New York Philharmonic.
